Human Resource Planning

Human resource planning (HRP) is a way of assisting the best deployment of human resources and can help organisation to:

• assess future recruitment needs
• anticipate and possibly avoid redundancies
• formulate training programmes
• develop a promotion and career development policy including succession planning
• keep staff costs to a minimum while permitting salaries to be competitive
• assess future premises requirements.

A process which anticipates and maps out the consequences of business strategy on an organization's human resources. This is reflected in planning of skill and competence needs as well as total headcounts. For resourcing strategies to be implemented they must be translated into practical action.
